School Development Update – Big changes at OLW!

Online learning

The school are using Seesaw as a means of continuing the children’s learning during this unprecedented time. This will continue until the end of the school year. As always, our parents can use Classdojo to communicate with class teachers should they need to.

Goodbye and thank you

The playschool has closed and unfortunately, will not reopen in September. The school would like to take this opportunity to thank Valerie, Sharon and Gwen for their outstanding service to the community spanning almost four decades and wish them well in the future.

ASD Class and sensory room

After months of discussion with the National Council of Special Education and the Department of Education and Skills, the school is opening an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) class for children with Autism along with a sensory room to cater for these children’s needs. In setting up this class in Our Lady of the Wayside N.S., the aim of the Board ofManagement and Staff is to develop an educational setting which is focused on the needs of all the children. The Board of Management is committed to providing the highest quality of education for the children concerned. The Admissions Policy for this class is available here.

A new look

The school has recently had every corridor painted and has also had new storage units installed by Daniel Timmins. These units are a really welcome addition and we thank the Parent’s Council for their fundraising efforts which made this development possible.

The entire boundary wall of the school as well as the front wall have recently been painted and we think that this really enhances our school. We hope that our school community agrees!

Covid-19 update

Finally, we are working tirelessly and following all guidelines from both the HSE and the Department of Education and Skills to ensure that we are ready when schools reopen. We will keep all members of the school community posted as soon as we know of any further developments in relation to this.

Message from the Principal

As Principal of Our Lady of the Wayside N.S., it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school’s website which provides a snapshot of the myriad of different activities that take place in our school every day. It gives an insight into the wonderful opportunities that are afforded to the children who attend Our Lady of the Wayside N.S.

Our school is a vertical one (Junior Infants to 6th Class) providing education to over 120 children. Our staff is 19 strong – talented, enthusiastic and professional people who place the interests of our pupils at the centre of everything they do. In addition to our teachers, Special Needs Assistants, secretary and caretaker, we are supported by an amazing Parents’ Association and the wider Bluebell parish community. The school is governed by a dedicated group of volunteers in the form of our Board of Management. The Board, under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, is headed by Fr. Leo Philomin.

We are all extremely proud of our pupils and are constantly amazed by their abilities and talents. We will endeavour to continue to nurture and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of the world around them. We look forward to what the future will bring for our community and are sure Our Lady of the Wayside N.S. will continue to be a caring, welcoming and supportive school for many years to come.

Le gach dea ghuí

John Murtagh
